Best Bike Repair Stand for Mountain Bikes

I did an enormous amount of research when evaluating bike repair stands and learned a number of good pointers. When choosing a bicycle repair stand for a mountain bike, you need to keep in mind a few tips, which are not necessarily different than if you own a road cycle but are more prominent and important.

I’ve listed them below in order of importance:

#1 Stability is King

When buying a bike repair stand for any bicycle, you want it to hold your bike stable. Mountain bikes tend to weight more than the urban road cycles and as such you really need to watch that your stand will hold your bike well. Your stand should not tip over, it should not wobble and it should hold your bike solid no matter how much your bike weights. You may need to pay a little more for this quality, but you will be far happier than buying something cheap and having to upgrade later on.

#2 It is All About the Clamp

The second most important feature on a good stand is a good clamp. The clamp is the part of your stand that holds you bike at an elevated level and if you have a bad clamp on a good stand, then you have a bad stand. The clamp needs to be as solid as the stand and be functional enough so you can position your bike any which way you need it. If stability is King, your clamp is queen. For a heavier mountain bike, you again want to pay extra attention to getting a good one as a good stand will make you happy.

#3 Look For a Good Brand

Brand is important when it comes to bike repair stands because you will have so much more support and confidence with a good brand than if you buy a stand from a lesser known brand. A good brand has a reputation to protect, and their reputation depends entirely on you being happy with their product. With a mountain bike this is important because we tend to beat up our bikes on the trails more than our tamer urban brothers and sisters. This means you will use your stand more often, and it will suffer more wear and tear in the long run. If something on the stand breaks somewhere down the road, the company behind the brand will likely fix your stand or replace it for free. Good brands come with warranties. Stands from lesser brands often do not. In most cases, you do get what you pay for.

Female Fighters

Fighting is a sport which has been popular due to its high entertainment value. Since the dawn of sports, women have been an integral part of every field of sports. Female fighting is supposed to have first traced in 330 B.C. though there were only a few matches then. Women did participate in wars and battles since as long as men but the concept of fighting came quite later. Earlier, in international games like Olympics, women were excluded from participation, but over the ages, the mindset having changed, more and more women from various parts of the world are increasingly showing their keen interest in even rough sports like wrestling. With safety of the participants being assured, wrestling has a new dimension and female fighters have even fought their male counterparts to win numerous titles. That is only a small exploration of women in the world of sports. The concept of female fighting has come up much later than male fighting. The first male fighters have been traced back to Mesopotamia and Greece while the first female fighters were from France, one of whom we know as Joan of Arc. When we classify under broader aspects, fighting can be divided into two kinds:

Boxing: One of the favorite sports of people around the world of boxing was supposed to be a sport for men. Now, women too, participate, especially in the winter Olympics and Asian games, where they fight on the behalf of their country. It is one of the most interesting game to watch with strokes and techniques, rather than the usual bone-breaking game.

Martial arts: Martial arts have originated and evolved from the East. Both men and women in countries like Japan, China and Taiwan have mastered the art of sword-fighting or traditional martial arts like karate and taekwondo (the national sport of Korea). However, nowadays, a number of martial arts schools all over the world have cropped up so that people from other countries too can take part in international events in this sport. If you consider the Olympics whatsoever, there is only a display of skill in martial arts by a single participant, but the real fight is worth a watch. MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) are gaining popularity in the recent times with the world champion being Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.

On the Prowl for the Best Longboards

Imagine yourself lying on your 8 foot longboard while you try to balance everything with the help of your knees and feet and you paddle your way through the on-coming whitewater. After sometime, you see this nice swell coming your way. You decide to ride it!

You paddle with all your might as the salt water gets into your eyes and mouth, finally you feel and hear the wave from under your longboard giving your the cue to stand up. Then there is this intense feeling that you have once again conquered nature.

One can never forget the feeling of being stoked from the 1st time you caught your first wave in a surfboard. You long to experience it after time goes by. And being in a country that has no access to surf you’ll try to get the next best thing.

Last week I managed to scour the city hall area of Singapore just to look for longboards. A few searches from Google led me to Peninsula Shopping centre where two shops are currently selling the best longboards in the market.

Walking in the streets from my office under the drizzling rain, I managed to locate this shop in the basement level of the building called Interstate Longboards.

Surprisingly, they have the Original Longboards brand. From what I recall, they have the Apex 37, The 37 Pintail as well as the Pintail 40, and a Malakai 40.

So there I was, ecstatic by the selection in front of me. Holding each one with both hands as I think of the ways and places I’ll be using it. The owner of the shop even mentioned that he already sold 3 longboards for the day and that Original Longboards is one great board to start with.

I am thinking in the lines of just getting an Apex 37 (2011) or a Pintail 37.

Here’s a brief description of the two boards:

The Original Longboard: Pintail 37. Excellent design, it looks like a surfboard on wheels and the graphic is a classic. It appears to be the perfect board for a Longboard beginner like me. but there’s another option that will surely make me think twice.

Swim Lessons

What does one do when one is in Austin, Texas? Well, there are various tourist attractions. One can ride a bike to explore the city. As the city is one of the most humid cities in the country, it would be a good idea to cool off in one of the fifty public pools in the city. Good thing that there are Austin Swim Lessons, that can help people learn how to swim properly.

You see, Austin has 7 square miles of water. It has three man-made lakes, and apart from the fifty public pools, it is also home to some of the historic pools like the Deep Eddy and the Barton Springs. Deep Eddy is the oldest man made pool in Texas and the Barton Springs are the biggest natural swimming pools that are located in an urban area.

If one does not know how to swim, one could not enjoy these attractions to the hilt!

Swimming is not only limited to having fun. Swimming has actually many uses, that one should really consider taking it up seriously as part of daily living. Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise since it is a non-weight bearing exercise; unlike running, which can have effects on the joints.

Swimming involves all the muscle groups in the body. It develops the strength and endurance of the person. Not only that; swimming provides a good cardio workout for the heart. In addition, swimming actually burns a lot of calories so it can be used as a good tool when one is trying to lose weight.

Swimming is a fun way to bond with friends too. Even just floating and learning a variety of strokes can be a source of endless fun among friends, especially everyone is relaxed and just chilling out in the water. Comfort is one of the most important things to remember when learning since one learns fast when the water is comfortable.

There are Austin swim lessons that can guide children well when it comes to learning how to swim. Some have indoor pools which have very comfortable temperatures (at 88 degrees); and since it is indoor, one has some control over the environment. This means that it is there for you to use all throughout the year. Outdoor pools on the other hand can be enjoyed more if the weather is hot.
