Bill Walton was a 6 ’11″ center with the hands of a surgeon, with the brains of a head coach, and the mentality of a point guard. For one spectacular season in the 1970′s Bill Walton’s star burned as brightly as anyone in the history of the NBA. He did everything a center could possibly do. He scored, shut down the lane, rebounded, and passed the ball with point guard type precision. At that time, Walton was hailed as the brightest big man in the game.

Bill Walton somehow managed to play for 14 years in the NBA, despite being riddled with injuries throughout his career. Even with all of his injuries that he sustained throughout his career, Walton was elected to the NBA Hall of Fame in 1993.

In order to truly appreciate the kind of talent that Bill Walton was, you would have to go back to the 1970′s. He was the first “hippie” to be a success in professional sports. After graduating from UCLA, Walton let his wild red hair grow into a ponytail and he listened to bands like the Grateful Dead. He dressed like a mountain man and gave up eating red meat. His diet ranged from rutabaga omelets to raw cucumbers. He even once called the FBI, “the enemy”. Afterward he was brought in for questioning after making those political statements.

When Bill Walton wasn’t playing basketball, he lived a unique and care free life. He would go out cruising around the country in his jeep, went white water rafting, and was an active participant in various political causes. However, when he was on the basketball court, Walton was all business. He brought an attitude of teamwork to the game and had a knack of turning his teammates around him into winners.

When he played with the Portland Trail Blazers, he took a team with seven new faces and with an average age of 23 to the 1977 NBA Finals. Facing the Philadelphia 76ers, Walton rallied his team from an 0-2 deficit to sweep the last 4 games and win the NBA Championship in a dazzling display of team oriented basketball. In the final game of the Championship series Walton scored 20 points, grabbed 23 rebounds, blocked 8 shots, and picked up 7 assists to win a breathtaking 109-107 game to capture the NBA title.

1. Stretching

While doing the vertical jump program do the motions of the exercises at a quick pace. Doing the exercises quickly will teach your muscles to move faster during a basketball game.

Avoid doing the repetitions slowly, as your aim is not to become a body builder. What you want to do is to put as much force into your legs as possible. Every amount of force that you put in your legs when you push will get you even that much close to dunking during a game. If you aim is to increase your muscles and make the bigger, then this program isn’t right for you.

3. Strength

Using weights during your training session is so crucial. You will want to use the weights sooner rather than later. The percentage of how much weights you use will depend on how much force you want to apply to your legs. If you want speed in your legs then lowering the percentage of weights is the best way to go, and you want to do this with more repetitions.

Work out what percentage your maximum is going to be when doing the exercises. Alternating can be a good idea especially if you want to increase muscle build as well. Work your vertical program out, to what it is that you want to work on and do.

4. Quick Explosion

What If I Were In Your Team?

They said I’m now one, if not the most hated player in the league.

I couldn’t care less.

If I were in your team, you wouldn’t as well.

What I bring to the game differentiates me from every other guy out there. Focus. Leadership. Pride. Passion. Extreme Intensity. You’ve got to be kidding me. Don’t you want those in your team? Don’t you dream at night having a winning record for a change, or reaching the playoffs, or the grandest stage of them all in NBA?

Maybe it’s just because I’ve taken things to another level. To a whole new level. One that others dare not attempt. For fear of what? Getting ridiculed? Mocked? Laughed at? You think I do this to please the crowd and draw the attention to me every time I act and react in every play? Every time I do my pre-game ritual, pound my fist to my chest, take a “cheap shot” on someone, or go crazy on that referee?

I don’t do it for the sake of you reading this, you watching me, or anything else… including David Stern.

I do it because that’s me.

So I may have gone overboard in my recent actuation’s… I’m raising both arms now in honesty, I’m only human – what can you expect?

Right – you’re thinking I also have animal blood in me. I don’t get it. I apologize, but hey… if I were in your team, you wouldn’t care less.

If I were in your team, you wouldn’t mind me getting in the opponent’s skin. You wouldn’t mind me hollering at every one on the court, you’d believe I was pure energy.

If I were in your team, I’d leap for every loose ball as long as I can. I’d contest every shot in every area, not just in the paint. I’m all psyched up even at my age, that most times I still feel like the new kid from the block. Yes, my trainor says to slow down, watch it, I might “break another leg”. But I know you’d love me for pouring my heart out into anything I do.
